Summary[]
Shadow the Hedgehog, also known as Shadow is the secondary antagonist of Sonic the Hedgehog 3. He is a vengeful and powerful anthropomorphic hedgehog that was created as part of a secret government experiment named Project Shadow, ran by G.U.N. fifty years prior. During his time as a science experiment project, he befriended a young human girl named Maria Robotnik, who was the granddaughter of Gerald Robotnik, who was in charge of running the project. Fifty years later, in 2024, he would reawaken from stasis and seek to avenge Maria's death, encountering Team Sonic in Tokyo in the process.

Morality Standard: Common Hostility, Safe Nobility
- Atrocious (Rampaging across Tokyo, attempting to kill Team Sonic and nearly annihilating the earth)
- Noble (Sacrificing himself to save the World)
Resourceful Capability: Immensely Powerful with the Chaos Emeralds
Competency: Partially Successful (Although he succeeded in most of his goals, he failed to save Maria and escape the G.U.N. Laboratory)
- Minor Game Changer (He drastically darkens the mood of an inconsistently light-hearted story)
- Unpleasant (Although dark, he has very rare comedic comments like when he expresses his likeness for latinas, his “revenge guac” and several references to Sonic Adventure 2 when he redeems himself. This is very uncommon for him though.)
Moral Prevention Severity: Noble Prevention (Saved the World from the Eclipse Cannon and fixed his ways), Atrocious Prevention (Attempted to destroy the G.U.N. Base plus the Earth (in the process, although under Gerald’s command) and is pretty anti-heroic, not to mention pretty jerkish)
- Ruined (Deeply loved Maria and treated her as his friend, with her death and him being put into stasis by G.U.N. for 50 years the main reason why he became a misanthrope, and felt remorse for nearly killing Tom, eventually redeeming himself after Sonic taught him to overcome his past. While his actions are very vile, his tragedy is brought up for sympathy too much to be NPE)
- Living Hell during his stasis. (Implied to have relieved him and Maria’s friendship, making him too tragic for NPE)
